Denver foundation donates $1 million to canine causes

Morris Animal Foundation announced $1 million in grants for 12 doggy research projects. Tumor growth, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders are the focus and 11 universities are the recipients. Schools in Minnesota and Australia were among the lucky eleven.

Credit Union offers scholarships to members

High school seniors who are members of Blue Federal Credit Union are eligible for scholarships of up to $2,000 through the regional institution’s charitable arm, The Blue Foundation. Six scholarships of $2,000 and one $500 prize will be awarded. The company formed in 2016 when a Colorado credit union merged with one chartered in Wyoming.

TV stations team up for cop safety

Fox31 and Channel 2 raised over $200,000 in one week to help Colorado law enforcement buy better protective gear. The “Support the Shield” campaign comes after three Colorado Sheriff Deputies were killed in the line of duty over a period of about a month. The sister stations raised cash through a phone bank and then encouraged their viewers to host their own fundraisers.

Google donates $125K to Boulder schools

Tech giant Google announced a grant of $125,000 to Impact on Education and the Boulder Valley School District to underwrite educator professional development in computer science. According to the recipients, the grant will affect nearly 15,000 students and increase the number of teachers competent in computers to 300 across 57 schools in a three-year window.

Energy association raises $200K for neglected kids

Colorado Oil and Gas Association members raised more than $200,000 at their annual Mardi Gras Ball. The money benefits Tennyson Center for Children, which helps neglected and abused children throughout the state.

Domestic violence charity announces extended stay facility

SafeHouse Denver, which works with domestic violence survivors through temporary shelter, counseling and other services, announced its purchase of an extended stay facility in Denver. The Extended Stay Program has been in the works, and the charity just wrapped up its capital campaign. The program will extend SafeHouse’s services to as many as 100 more adults and children.
